Vhs was the birth of home video , no longer did we have to go to the cinema to watch new releases or wait for them to be broadcast on live TV we could now buy or rent them ... BE KIND REWIND

UMD is the perfect format if you like your films compact and portable and with the correct cables you can even hook them up to your TV.

VCD was short lived in Europe but went on to have much more success in Asia , much like a Dvd but films were watched on 2 or even 3 discs.

CEDs, were large discs created by RCA to hold movies. They had grooves just like record albums and were played on machines that had special needles for playback. 

HD DVD may have lost the short lived format war with BLU RAY but it still has a huge following. We hear this asked in football quite often and now film lovers can ask the same question ..ARE YOU RED OR BLUE?

DVD replaced the long time dominance of VHS , they offered better quality picture and sound , were more compact and best of all you could still rent them at Blockbusters.

BLU RAY was designed to supersede the DVD format , offering more storage and higher definition it is technically the superior format but so far has failed to out sell DVD.

UHD is the latest arrival on the home cinema scene with superior quality to all it's previous rivals but perhaps just a format for die hard film enthusiats.
